RE: Bill C-250 (Homosexuality/Anti-Hate Legislation)

It is my understanding that Bill C-250, recognized as anti-hate legislation, would make it illegal to speak against various sexual behaviours including homosexuality. One does not really know how to appeal to a member of parliament on such an issue. This is not an issue of finance, or health, or tax, or education, or industry, or commerce, or other “intellectual” issue but instead is an issue of personal faith and belief.

It is an irony that many who speak against homosexuality are labeled as haters. In fact, most of those who are opponents of the bill by reason of personal faith and belief genuinely care very much for others including homosexuals, so much so that they often desire only the very best for every human being. They believe that the very best for each of us as individuals and as a nation is as God outlined in the Bible, which is what they believe to be God's written Word and revelation to us; His handbook to mankind. He is the Creator and it was His plan to write a manual to go with His created works. As much as we may not like it, His counsel through His Word says:

“Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God.” (I Corinthians 6:9-10)

“But we know that the Law is good, if one uses it lawfully, realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous man, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners (that’s all of us), for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers and immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching…” (I Timothy 1:8-10)

“You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination. Do not defile yourselves by any of these things; for by all these the nations which I am casting out before you have become defiled.” (Leviticus 18:22,24)

We may not like what this says but God didn’t command this for His good; He commanded it for our good. God has an order and a plan that He knows works best for us. We may choose to reject the truth but we do so at our own peril as individuals and as a nation.

You may be one who chooses to believe that there is no God but just in case there is a God, surely you would believe that He has the power to either bless or to curse a nation, and if that is a possibility, then surely you would want to err on the side of blessing, rather than cursing. This, in itself, should be sufficient reason to consider carefully what He has written and to write laws accordingly as our lawmakers have done in our nation's history.

Many people have come to reject any concept or knowledge of sin but instead have adopted the standard that if it feels right, then it must be right. Increasingly we are becoming a nation which tolerates everything but stands for nothing.

The proposed bill also makes it illegal to speak against other forms of sexual behaviour including bestiality, incest, polygamy and other forms of sexual expression. One may mock the notion, only because it may seem too far fetched, but not unlike homosexuality, there will come a time when citizens will demand that these also be considered as legal and acceptable. It may sound ludicrous now, as would the issue of Bill C-250 to many of our parents and grandparents who were no fools but who held highly principled and time honoured values, but will there be anyone left to stand up for what is right when that time comes?

Regardless of any issue of personal faith and belief, passage of this bill would be a violation of all that this nation has come to represent with respect to the freedom to believe what one chooses and to speak with the same freedom as assured in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. As the homosexual is free to speak about his position on any issue, including homosexuality, so too should anyone else be free to speak about his position on anything, including homosexuality. The homosexual wants to be tolerated but can’t tolerate others who may hold an opposing perspective. The further absurdity and irony of this “so called” anti-hate legislation is the fact that it actually legalizes the right of others to hate what I choose to believe, and thereby hate me.

The Charter of Rights and Freedoms acknowledges the supremacy of God and yet when we reject the truth of God’s Word, we make a farce of the Charter. As our national anthem bids, if we truly desire that “God keep our land glorious and free,” wouldn’t it be wise to honour Him when given the opportunity, such as now?

It will become a black day in our nation when speaking what we reasonably understand to be God’s Word is outlawed!

I encourage you to vote against this bill for any and all reasons noted.

These comments are respectfully submitted for your consideration. Your comments would be most welcome.

Yours truly
