Dear
Messrs Saurette & Gordon
Re: Abortion – “Bring on
Canada’s new abortion debate” by Paul Saurette & Kelly Gordon
I write in response to the aforementioned
article published in “The Star,” May 20, 2014. The extent of your apparent
fervour in the pro-choice position of the abortion debate is rather disconcerting.
Prior to publishing your book, “The
Changing Voice of the Canadian Anti-Abortion Movement,” it is my hope that you
will have fully considered the following:
· Doesn’t any reference
to "pro-choice" imply that there is an ethical choice involved in the
decision to abort a baby? How can there be an ethical choice between killing
and not killing when a child is involved?
· Isn’t it disingenuous to
attempt to balance a mother's right with the right of an unborn baby and to
believe that such a balance can be achieved by killing one of those lives? Shouldn’t
the right to life be paramount to all other rights and the right to choose be clearly
and resolutely superseded by that very precious right to life?
· Isn’t it a rather gruesome
reality that the destiny of any "unwanted" unborn child is ultimately
left to the decision of a pro-abortionist doctor? Would any of us have wanted our
own lives entrusted to a person who considers killing us as a reasonable
alternative to life?
· Isn’t there a problem
when, now, statistically in this country, the most dangerous place to be is in
the mother's womb?
· However euphemistically
described, isn’t abortion still the killing of the unborn child; isn’t murder
by any other name still murder?
· Isn’t there a serious
societal problem when virtually any social, economic, or psychological
condition or circumstance can be used as justification for the killing of the
unborn child? Isn’t it true that abortion is not really the solution to any
problem; it is ultimately the elimination of another human being perceived to
be the problem?
· Even though pro-abortionists
argue that abortion must be legalized and easy access made available to
everyone in order to reduce deaths associated with back alley abortions, shouldn’t
it be acknowledged that, back alley or not, there is at least one death in
every abortion?
· For doctors who have
committed to honouring the Hippocratic Oath, haven’t the abortionist doctors cast
themselves in the paradoxical position of being both healers and exterminators?
Side by side they exist; obstetricians in one room, abortionists in the next.
· Doesn’t the unborn
child, by the very reason of his or her physical and mental immaturity, need
our special protection and care, not our killing.
· Shouldn’t our government
lead our nation in establishing laws which will clearly protect the precious,
voiceless, unborn lives from the moment of their conception?
· Wouldn’t adoption be
the best alternative for a “problem” pregnancy? Instead of abortion, for the
never ending stream of childless couples in Canada, wouldn’t it be better to
provide the wonderful opportunity for adoption for those who would dearly love to
raise an adopted son or daughter?
Pro-choice proponents
often describe the pro-life advocates as wanting to deny reproductive rights
for women. This is not the essence of the pro-life position. Much more
profoundly, the pro-life advocates are really only wanting to defend what they
believe is the unborn’s right to live. (The young female babies in their
mothers’ wombs, about to be aborted, will, by their own imminent death, be
denied their own reproductive rights as young women. Is this right?)
I concede that the
position which I hold is somewhat for selfish reasons. Yes, I defend the life
of the unborn but, just as importantly, I am also concerned for our nation. I
believe that there is a God-given mandate and directive regarding the unborn. I
also believe that we cannot continue to mock God on such an issue without
bringing judgment on our nation because ultimately… it will be at our own
peril.
"Before I formed you in the womb I
knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you" (Jeremiah 1:5).
"The Lord called Me from the womb; From
the body of My mother He named Me" (Isaiah 49:1).
"For You formed my inward parts;
You wove me in my mother's womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully
and wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:13-14).
"I have set before you life and
death, blessing and cursing; choose life that both you and your seed may
live" (Deuteronomy 30:19).
"Deliver those who are being taken
away to death, and those who are staggering to slaughter" (Proverbs
24:11).
My hope is that you
will consider advocating with those who desire to honour the life of the unborn
from the moment of conception. Thank you for your consideration.
Your comments would be most welcome.
Yours
truly
